Comprehensive correction of a gummy smile and front teeth aesthetics

Complaints:

The patient sought to improve the aesthetics of his smile. He was concerned about “short” teeth, excessive gum display when smiling, and asymmetry of the anterior teeth.

Diagnosis:

Clinical examination revealed malposition of teeth 1.1 and 1.2, reduced clinical crown height, and excessive gingival display during smiling. Esthetic and functional issues requiring orthodontic, gnathological, and prosthetic correction were diagnosed.

Treatment:

Treatment began with professional oral hygiene. Orthodontic and gnathological preparation was then carried out, including correction of the position of teeth 1.1 and 1.2 and normalization of occlusal relationships. After Digital Smile Design planning, prosthetic rehabilitation of the anterior teeth was performed using ceramic restorations. As a result, the asymmetry of the anterior teeth was corrected, proper clinical crown length was restored, excessive gum display was reduced, and a more harmonious and proportionate smile was achieved.

In this case, the patient was concerned about “short” teeth, excessive gum display when smiling, and asymmetry of the front teeth, which negatively affected the aesthetics of the smile.

During the diagnostic examination, malposition of teeth 1.1 and 1.2, reduced clinical crown height, and a pronounced gummy smile were identified.

Achieving a predictable result required a comprehensive approach involving several dental specialties.

This was followed by orthodontic and gnathological preparation to correct tooth positioning and normalize occlusal relationships.

After digital smile planning using the Digital Smile Design (DSD) protocol, prosthetic rehabilitation of the front teeth was performed using ceramic veneers.

Result:

The asymmetry of the front teeth was corrected, proper proportions and clinical crown length were restored, and gum display during smiling was significantly reduced.

The smile became more harmonious, natural, and balanced, while the achieved result helped emphasize the patient’s individual facial features.
